Optimizing HIV Testing Services in Botswana’s Defence Sector – A Model for High-Quality Diagnostics
Themes: Innovation & CQI
Limited access to cervical cancer screening and outdated diagnostic methods created a demand for efficient, scalable, and technology-driven solutions in Botswana’s public health sector.
A nationwide initiative integrated HPV DNA testing and thermal ablation, expanding screening services from 5 to 57 facilities. Over 120,000 women, particularly those living with HIV, benefited from fast, accurate diagnostics and same-day treatment options.
This intervention showcased the strong market potential for innovative diagnostic tools and minimally invasive treatments, opening the door for pharmaceutical companies and medical technology providers to scale affordable, high-impact solutions in emerging markets.
